We’re calling today’s card a Happy Hibiscus experiment because Ann tried some things that she’s never done before. OK. One of them she may have done, but she doesn’t remember doing it very often. But the other one was a first time experiment.
Can you spot them?

We try not to spend too much time going down the rubber rabbit hole on Pinterest but we did stumble across a layout and that’s what inspired this card. We didn’t make it exactly the same, but it was the original inspiration.
A layout is just a drawing of where things go. There are no stamps, ink or paper. It’s just a drawing of where things go. You don’t have to keep to it exactly – and, of course, we didn’t.
So What’s Different?
What Ann did that she normally doesn’t do is to put a full background of patterned paper. But she did here.
Do you use a full background of patterned paper on your cards? We tend to use it as an accent, but this Botanical Textures Designer Series Paper just arrived yesterday and we couldn’t wait to use it.
But that’s not the big experiment. Have you spotted it yet? If you looked at the supplies, you might get it.

The Experiment
The Happy Hibiscus stamp set and bundle have a lot of options. There’s a hybrid embossing folder which comes with dies to emboss & cut your flowers. It’s also got 2 stamp stamping.
But when Ann stamped the flower filler in Real Red over the Smokey Slate outline, she didn’t like it. She also tried it in Melon Mambo. Didn’t like that either.
So she tried something she hadn’t tried before. She took a Light Read Red Stampin’ Blend and colored in all the white areas. And that’s what makes all the lighter areas of the flower. She only laid color down on the white areas and didn’t try to blend because dye based inks and alcohol inks like the Stampin’ Blends don’t mix.
Yep. I like it too. Do you? Leave a comment below and let us know.

Very pretty! Great idea for filling in the flower.
Glad you liked it. I can’t believe we hadn’t done that before, but red & white was just too stark.
