Ann told me that there were two days in the last 50 years that changed everything.
The first was in November 1963 when President John F. Kennedy was shot. It wasn’t the first time a U.S. President had been assassinated, but it was the first time that such a tragedy was shown on TV and got such massive live coverage.
The second was September 11, 2001 – usually referred to as 9/11 – and now remembered as Patriot’s Day. The United States was attacked for the second time on its own soil in the past century. (The first was Pearl Harbor.)
They all happened before I was born, but I’ll bet you know where you were for at least one of those occasions.
So today’s card remembers President Kennedy and also honors those who do what they can to protect us.
But it’s not just for the military. Today we honor the police, fire fighters, first responders and even our emergency room crews.
